Utopiales
The Utopiales is an annual sci-fi festival in Nantes. Mixing science, sci-fi and a bit of fantasy, the theme of the 2018 edition was “The body in all of its forms”. The brief was to create a visual identity for the poster of the edition, and then create a flyer out of it.
This was a group project that I did with a friend. We both worked on the artistic direction, and then I worked on the 3D illustration while he worked on the layout of the prints. As the usual identity for the Utopiales is quite dark, using a lot of black, we decided to go the opposite direction, to bring something new. It also refers to the medical field, with the omnipresence of white. The illustrations can represent abstract cells, or can be seen as atoms, both being a part of our bodies. The cells seem made of non-organic matter, like glass or ceramic, to represent transhumanism, which was a central subject of this edition. Finally, we kept the font of the Utopiales so it’s still recognisable easily, but modified some letters to bring back the sci-fi, futuristic vibe we wanted.
